Let's take a hike - and a few other reminders!!

OK, a few quick reminders and a few dates for your calendars!

  • Start times for both Wednesday night Ladies Rides on Clinton Road and Friday night Clinton Road rides are at 6 p.m. General weather policy is that rain will cancel Wednesday nights. Friday nights - well, if it rains, you may encounter a few hardy souls, but you may not.....
  • They're back, and better than ever! I Dig Tuesdays will start up again on May 27! Meet at the gate at JH at 5:45 p.m. Bring your own gloves, bug spray and water - we'll provide the tools. These nights are once again part of the JORBA PayDirt program, so all you H2H racers who need your hours - here's your chance! Very important note - if you don't sign in, you won't get the credit!!!!!!!
  • Speaking of PayDirt and Jungle Habitat, we'll also be working on Saturday, May 31 at 10 a.m. Same rules apply as above!
  • Save the date for a TTC hike and lunch day! TTC member Tom B. will be leading a hike out of Beacon NY on June 7. Here's his itinerary -
    • A 2 to 3 hour hike at Breakneck Ridge (first hour or so a steep uphill climb with lots of rock scrambling and incredible views of the Hudson Valley, the rest downhill on normal trails)
    • Lunch somewhere in Beacon
    • Dessert at Zora Dora's - amazing creamsicles and popsicles (maybe 40 flavors!).
    • Approx. starting time in Beacon will be around 9:30-10 a.m., but we'll solidify times and meeting places in the next few days. In the meantime, mark the date on your calendar!

One last Rumble thank you ....

One last Rumble related note - a big thank you to all of the racers and spectators for leaving JH, both trails and parking lot, EXTREMELY clean this year! Without a doubt, this was the cleanest the park has ever been post-race! Thank you for respecting the park, our relationship with the NJ State Park system, and the time of our volunteers - we say it all the time, but the H2H family is the best!

Mother Nature was very kind to us, no rain, no bugs, and most of the mud dried out! The perfect temperatures, great post race food (thanks Ruby Rose!), and great racing - all the ingredients for an awesome day!

Thanks to everyone who came out and supported the race - we truly appreciate it! Results are here - thanks to Eastern Sports Promotions for all their great work! Also, please check out GTLuke's pictures - as usual, he got some great ones!

Rumble in the Jungle 2014 edition - course maps, pre-rides, etc.!

So here we go! We've changed things up a bit for 2014. To start, we're moving the whole show - registration, start area, and finish line - into the upper parking lot. You'll be able to park up there as well - certainly plenty of room to spread out!

Now, to our stellar crayon maps. The course will run clockwise, and the approximate start/finish lines are indicated on the map. A note about the course - the weather is predicted to dump rain on us Friday. Please note that yes, this is the intended route, but conditions may dictate some slight deviations from this map come race day, and we hope you'll understand if we need to make some changes. We're working on a GPS file - maybe tomorrow?

Cat. 1 will run 3 laps. Cat. 2 will run 2 laps. Cat. 2 riders - please note the orange "Cat. 2" bypass note on the map - you will not ride that last bottom section known as Babs. It will be taped off for your race only. Cat. 3, you will race 2 laps of a shorter course - please see the separate map for Cat. 3.

Looking for a tour? We'll lead a ride of the Cat. 1/2 lap.on Thursday, May 15. We'll meet at the gate at 5:30 p.m., and do at least one, possibly 2 laps of the Cat. 1/2 course at a moderate pace. We'll ride in light rain, but heavy rain or thunder will cancel.

Cat. 3 lap pre-ride will be on Saturday morning, May 17 at 10:30 a.m. Again, we'll meet at the gate. We'll do 2 laps at a casual pace for all those beginners who want a chance to get familiar with the course!

There are some arrows already up at critical intersections. More will be going up as the week goes by. Weather depending, course should be marked up by Friday night - early Sat. a.m. at the latest. Course designer Dave VW will be out there every evening after work this week - feel free to hunt him down and ask him any course questions you have.

Get your Cat. 1/2 course map here. Cat. 3 course map is available here. See everyone out there on Sunday!

West Milford Family Pump Track CLOSED this weekend.

Due to the weather both current and forecasted, the West Milford Pump Track will be CLOSED this weekend. We'll have to wait until next Saturday, May 17, to try again for our 2014 grand opening.

Please stay off the track - the damage that gets done to the track when it is wet is a lot of work to reverse, and ruins the experience for everyone. Thanks so much for your understanding, and we'll try again next weekend!

Happy Mothers Day weekend!

Before we post a single thing, let's remember the most important event happening this weekend is Mother's Day! Don't forget to thank the moms in your life for all they do for you!
  • Friday Night Ride will go on for any hardy souls willing to brave the mist and the fog - although any thunderstorms will cancel. Start time is now officially 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, May 10 - want a sneak peek at the Rumble in the Jungle race course? Come on out and help us rake and cut back any face-slappers and you'll get a close up first hand look! Meet us at the gate at 12 p.m., and we'll work for about 2 hours or so. We'll work in light rain, but heavy rain will cancel. This is not a Paydirt event, just a chance to get an early look at the race course.
  • Weather permitting, Saturday will also be the grand opening of the West Milford Family Pumptrack for 2014! Some changes from 2013 await all you dirt riders. Any rain will cancel - rain date will be Sunday, May 11.
  • Sunday, May 11, TTC members Cliff and Diana will be headed to NYS for a long scenic road ride (though you may want your cross tires for some of those gravely roads!) They will leave from Margretville, NY at 10 a.m (about 2 hours away by car). They will be doing a shortened version of this route - planning on about 65 miles. Some good climbing, gravely roads, and great scenery! Contact Cliff directly for more info.
Have a great weekend everyone - especially all our favorite moms!

Team Town Cycle is pumped to add two new downhill racers to our race team family this year - Quinton Johnson and Titus Nicholson. They attended the first big race of the year in PA this weekend, the Duryea Downhill - part of the Gravity East series. Quinton had a great race, finishing 7th in the Cat. 2 18 and under, and Titus finished an outstanding 2nd in the Open Mens 14 and under.

Meet the 2014 Team Town Cycle Race team! Weekend after weekend, they are out there putting the TTC name out in the spotlight. Our race team may not be the largest, but they are well respected in the road, cyclocross, BMX, downhill and mountain biking worlds for both their competitiveness and for their sportsmanship. They are great ambassadors for our club, team and cycling, and we just wanted to take a moment to thank them for all their hard work and dedication!

A recent weekend had Ethan Huggins winning the Mens Middle School A class at our Juniors in the Jungle race, along with BJ Kisch and Tom Bowmaster tackling the competitive and challenging High Point Hill Climb TT, finishing a highly respectable 15th and 4th in their respective classes. Meanwhile, at the H2H Chainstretcher race at Blue Mountain, mountain bike racers Mike Moskowitz and Dave Schwartz battled a huge field in the Cat. 2 40-49 class,  while Nick Lando won the Pro/Open Men's Class, with Dillon Van Wart finishing 5th and David Kahl finishing 8th in the same class. David Van Wart also hit the podium at Blue, finishing 2nd in the Cat. 1 Singlespeed class. And this was just one weekend of racing!

Stay tuned for more news about our TTC racers as the season progresses!
