Rumble in the Jungle Results!

OK, here they are! Click on the link for the 2009 Rumble in the Jungle results!

http://www.teamtowncycle.com/docs/RIJfinalv2.pdf

Congratulations to everyone who was brave enough to come out in less that perfect weather and try out our course - next year we'll try to order up some better weather!

UPDATE: We had 2 snafu's on the list, one in the Men's Cat. 2 40-44 class, and one in the Men's Cat. 3 30-39 class. Both have been corrected (it will show corrected on the link), and we sincerely apologize for the errors. Thanks for your understanding!

Thank You, Rides and Racing

First off, we would like to say a big THANKS to all of you who were brave enough to come out to our Rumble in the Jungle race on Sunday, September 27. Yes it was damp - very damp - ok, wet! Despite the rain, the course held up well, and a good time was had by all. We had a great turn out, and we appreciate everyone's support! Race results will be posted later tonight.

Next - rides! This weekend's mountain bike race is going to be at Ringwood State Park, so we will lead a couple of pre-rides there this week. On Wed., Sept. 30, we'll meet at the Shepherd's Lake parking lot at 5 p.m., so we can squeeze a decent ride in before dark.

If you can't make it Wednesday, we'll be at the same place, same time on Thursday. 5 p.m., Shepherd's Lake parking lot.

On Sat., we have two activities going. First off is a trail work event at Jungle Habitat. We'll meet at 8:30 a.m., and work until 11:30 a.m. We'll check the trails for damage from the race, work on some new areas, maybe do a bit of marking. If you are a few hours short on your PayDirt points, this will give you a chance to pick up some more. PayDirt closes on October 9, so you are running out of time!

Our second event on Saturday, October 3 is our Beginners Ride and Clinic! It's free! It's for all ages, kid to grandparent, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Read more about it here - http://www.teamtowncycle.com/docs/JourneyJungleClinicflyerV2.pdf . Please let us know if you have any questions. We'll have snacks and giveaways, courtesy of JORBA, IMBA and Town Cycle, so bring a friend, a spouse, or a kid and join us! Rain will cancel our event, so let's keep our fingers crossed. REQUESTED - we collected several bags full of groceries at last weekends' race for donation to our local food pantry. Since this event is free, we're hoping you all can pitch in a few more non-perishable items to add to our total! Canned or other non-perishable items only please!

Sunday, October 4 is the final race in the Campmor H2H series - the Leafblower, at Ringwood State Park. If you're not racing, come cheer our team on in this final race for the season - it's local, the leaves are turning, and it'd be great to have some support for our racers.

Rumble in the Jungle Race Reminders

It's only 2 days away - the Campmor H2H Race #7 - the Rumble in the Jungle! The trails in Jungle Habitat are all groomed, marked and ready to ride. All we need now is you! Before you come, we have three reminders for you.

First - we hope you read about our food drive. If possible, please bring a canned or other non- perishable item with you to the race so we can help re-stock our local food pantry. We know times are tough, but we also know we have a great community - let's show everyone else how big our hearts are!

Secondly, esp. for those who are pre-riding on Saturday, there is an airshow taking place next door at the Greenwood Lake Airport. The spectators will be parking in the Jungle Habitat lot on Saturday only. If you are coming to pre-ride, expect extra traffic in and out, and possible parking complications. Just leave yourself some extra time.

Lastly, on Sunday, if you are racing early, then hoping to catch the air show, you must move your car out of the JH lot. Our permit dictates that the gates be closed by 4 p.m., and your car will be locked in if you leave it in the lot. The NJ State Park supervisor went through a lot of trouble to make sure we wouldn't have to deal with air show spectator parking during our event, and we really want to respect their wishes to have those gates locked at 4 p.m. If your car gets locked in, you'll have to call the police to let you out, and no one likes doing that! We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.

As a way to whet your appetite for Sunday, have a look at the video of riding at Jungle Habitat made by Art and Ellen White. It's just great - make sure your speakers are on! http://gallery.me.com/ellenandart#100187 . Thanks Art and Ellen - lovely work as always!

As always, any questions, let us know. Other than a bit of rain predicted for Sat. night, our day looks good - hope to see lots of you out there!

Rumble in the Jungle Food Drive

For all of you who are planning to attend the Campmor H2H Rumble in the Jungle race this weekend (Sept. 27) at Jungle Habitat, we are asking you to bring a canned or non-perishable food item to the race. Pasta, beans, canned vegetables, fruit, fish - all our items our local food pantries can use. We know times are tight for everyone, but if each rider bought just one food item, we'd have a couple of hundred donations to give - and a lot of thankful hearts.

We know that our community is a generous group - let's show the rest of the world as well!

Please contact us at info@teamtowncycle.com with any questions - and THANK YOU!

Team Town Cycle is thrilled to announce that we are sponsoring our first cyclocross race! There have been lots of people working behind the scenes to iron out all of the details - so here they are!

  • When: November 8, 2009
  • Where: The Hidden Valley Club, Vernon, NJ
  • Who: Anyone who rides!
  • Why: Why not?!!

Our race will be the 5th race in the NJ Cross Cup series. For more information about the NJ Cross Cup Series, check out http://www.njbikeracing.com. We're so psyched about this, and can't wait for this new gig. As always, please leave a comment or email us at info@teamtowncycle.com with any questions!

Rumble in the Jungle Race Course Updates

PLEASE REMEMBER: For those who are racing on Sunday, please don't forget we're asking everyone to bring a canned good or other non-perishable food item for donation to our local food pantry!

Many of you have asked for a course update for next weekend's Campmor H2H race, our very own Rumble in the Jungle. Because this is still a newer park, and we are constantly building new trails, we don't have everything GPS'd yet. (It's our big winter season goal!)

For those of you who raced here previously, there will be a good portion of the course that, while not exactly the same, will be similar to last years. One large difference is that the big hill climb has been eliminated, and we will be substituting a different section in for that. For all others, the course will be fully marked by Friday, Sept. 25, so you will be able to pre-ride Friday and Saturday.

NOTE TO ALL WHO PLAN TO PRE-RIDE SATURDAY - There is an airshow taking place next door at Greenwood Lake Airport on Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday, the parking lot will be all ours, but on Saturday, the lot will be used by air show spectators. We will still have full access to the park and all the trails. You will have lots of extra people to contend with, so expect to spend extra time getting in and out of the park!

As always, let us know if you have questions. It's almost race day - get out and ride!

Bike Fests and Fat Tire Fun

After we get through today's rain, it looks like a good weekend, so here's what's on tap for this weekend!

On Saturday, Sept. 12, our good friends at JORBA are having their second annual JORBA Fest at the Waterloo Village Concert Field in Stanhope, NJ. Several of our club members attend the Fest last year, and had nothing but good things to say! Demo bikes, kids rides, beginner, intermediate and advanced rides, skills clinics, swag raffles, shows by our local trials legend Jeff Lenosky - all part of the adventure! Check out the details and schedule at http://www2.jorba.org/index.php?title=Fest . Bring your helmet and have some fun!

Also on Saturday, for any of our mountain bike racers, we will be pre-riding the Sept. 13 Blue Mountain Reservation race course. Meet us at 10 a.m. at in the parking lot at Blue Mountain. For directions, please check this link out - http://www.wmba.org/PDF/Blue-Mtn-map-rev3.pdf . For those who are curious, here is the race course map - http://www.wmba.org/racemap.html . Of course, you don't need to be a racer to join us - just be aware it will be more of a race-paced ride! ATTENTION!!! Due to rain, we'll postpone our ride until noon!!!!!

And Sunday, either come ride or cheer our racers on as they tackle the 6th race in the Campmor H2H series, The Chain Stretcher, at Blue Mountain Reservation in Peekskill, NY.

Don't forget - our own contribution to the Campmor H2H series, The Rumble in the Jungle, is coming up on September 27 at our own Jungle Habitat! Be there or be square!

Labor Day weekend rides

Woohoo - a long weekend! Plenty of time to spend with the family and still get a good ride in! Here are our plans - hope you can join us.

Friday - our usual (and probably final!) regular Clinton Road ride. Meet us at 6 p.m. at the Village Square Inn on Rt. 23 in Newfoundland. Because of the shortening daylight hours, we'll probably have to call the Friday night rides after this week, so we hope you can join us.

Sunday - we're going on a road trip! Tune up your mountain bike - we're headed to the Blue Mountain Reservation in Peekskill, NY. We'll meet at Town Cycle (1468 Union Valley Road, West Milford) at 8:30 a.m. We can car pool or you can follow us - or meet us at Blue Mountain. Directions can be found here - http://www.wmba.org/Maps.html . It takes just over an hour to get there, and we'll plan to ride for at least 3 hours. It'll be a moderately paced ride, so all are welcome. It's a nice change of pace from our usual hants, and a great place to ride.

See - plenty of time to mow the lawn and throw back a few beers! As always, any questions, let us know. Enjoy the three day weekend!

Beginners Ride and Clinic at Jungle Habitat

UPDATE - Because the airshow that is taking place at the Greenwood Lake Airport will be using the Jungle Habitat Parking Lot on Sat. (only - it will not interfere with our race on Sunday!), and in consultation with with State Park Supervisors' office, we have decided for safety's sake to reschedule our Beginner Ride/Clinic for the following weekend - October 3. All other details remain the same! We're sorry for the inconvenience, and hope you'll still be able to join us! !

A lot of you out there are seasoned mountain biking veterans. Bunny hopping logs, four hour long treks through the woods, slick downhill descents - all these things are old hat to you. You laugh in the face of technical single track! Grueling uphills - so what?! You don't scare easily.

However, there may be people in your life that are not so, well ... accomplished. Maybe your husband/wife/ boyfriend/girlfriend is a bit more timid than you. Maybe you have already tried to share your mad mountain biking skills with your significant other, and it has resulted in nothing more than the need for relationship counseling, or at least a chilly car ride home with the vow of "Never again" muttered by one of you! Maybe your son or daughter would like to follow in your footsteps, but would sooner take advice from Bigfoot than you when it comes to the best way to climb that hill, or adjust their grip.

If that's the case, then we have the perfect event for you. On Sat., October 3, 2009, we will be hosting a beginners ride and clinic at Jungle Habitat. Every age is welcome - kids to seniors. All you need is a helmet, decent footwear (sneakers are OK), and a bike. For the kids, it doesn't need to be a geared mountain bike - something with tires that are suitable for off-road riding is fine! We will be meeting at 12 p.m., and we'll spend between 1.5 and 2 hours checking out some of the easier trails at Jungle Habitat. We'll break into small groups, and spend a little time with the basics before we hit the trails. It'll be a win-win for everyone - gain a little knowledge about the Jungle Habitat trails and mountain biking all in one shot!

The best part - it's free! You will be asked to sign a waiver (our insurance sponsor, USA Cycling requires it), and kids must have a parent or guardian present (the parent or guardian doesn't need to ride if they don't want to, but of course you are welcome to!) - but that's it! Bring some water, and some sunscreen or bug repellent if you would like. Anything more than light rain will cancel the event, but we're optimistic that it'll be just fine.

A flyer with every detail will be on the left sidebar shortly - spread the word! Tell your friends! Show some love! And as always, if you have any questions, please leave a comment or contact us at info@teamtowncycle.com .

Ladies Night Swan Song

Due to the shortening daylight hours, this Wednesday, Sept. 2, will be our last Ladies Night road ride on Clinton Road. If you've been waiting for a chance to ride with us - this is it! We'll meet, as usual, at the Village Square Inn on Rt. 23 in Newfoundland. We'll be there at 6 p.m. - we hope you will too!
